Achieving Proportional Delay and Loss Differentiation in a Wireless Network with a Multi-state Link

چکیده
Many algorithms for providing proportional delay differentiation and proportional loss differentiation have been proposed under wired networks. However, these algorithms suffer from low performance at encountering some distinct characteristics, such as location-dependent and time-varying channel capacity, which exist in wireless networks. This paper proposes a novel algorithm, Wireless Proportional Delay and Loss differentiation (WPDL) including a capacity-aware scheduler and a debt-aware dropper, to provide the proportional delay differentiation and proportional loss differentiation in a wireless network with a multi-state link. WPDL considers the channel state and debt information in order to improve the performance of scheduling and dropping. From simulation results, WPDL actually achieves proportional delay differentiation, proportional loss differentiation, lower queueing delay and loss, and higher throughput, compared with other methods in the wireless environment.

The proportional loss rate differentiation PLD model was proposed to provide controllable and predictable loss rate for different classes of wired network connections. However, these algorithms cannot be directly applied to wireless networks, because of the location-dependent and time-varying wireless channel capacity. This paper proposes a novel packet dropper for fuzzy controlling of the prop...

Extensive researches on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been performed and many techniques have been developed for the data link (MAC) layer. Most of them assume single-channel MAC protocols. In the usual dense deployment of the sensor networks, single-channel MAC protocols may be deficient because of radio collisions and limited bandwidth. متن کاملThe Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...
